An Integrated Community Approach to Healing in Recovery with Eva Christensen of The Retreat | A #MentalHealthMonday Recovery Education Session

In this presentation, Eva Christensen of The Retreat will discuss an integrated community approach to healing in recovery.

Research shows that significant improvements in mental health are experienced by individuals who receive community-based recovery care. Positive health impacts include feeling supported by peers, inspiration, motivation, accountability, overcoming social isolation, and knowing how to better access services. Eva of The Retreat will share her unique approach to recovery care rooted in community involvement and grounded in the idea that we are always stronger together.

During this engaging session of #MentalHealthMonday, Eva will:

  • Explore the concept of community & how it relates to a richer human experience
  • Show how building & belonging to a community can strengthen the foundation of our recovery
  • Discuss potential barriers & fears that may hinder community engagement
  • Identify ways to overcome obstacles & embrace connection
  • Examine the long-term benefits of integrating community & bi-directional support with clinical resources and how they collectively contribute to women’s healing

Join us LIVE for a Q & A session following the presentation.

ABOUT EVA CHRISTENSEN

Eva Christensen has called Saint Paul, Minnesota, her home for over fourteen years. She came to Minnesota in 2009 from Dallas, Texas, and entered The Retreat’s residential program for women to address her substance use disorder. Upon completion of the program, Eva transitioned to a sober living facility in Saint Paul and dedicated herself to connecting with the sober community there. During the first two years of her sobriety, she decided to permanently relocate to Minnesota, leave the service industry, and begin her education in the field of addiction.

A summa cum laude graduate of Metropolitan State University with a Bachelor of Science in alcohol and drug counseling, Eva is a licensed alcohol and drug counselor and certified peer recovery specialist. She began her new career at The Retreat in 2012 as admissions supervisor while completing internships at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation. Eva served as program director at St. Paul Sober Living and as an admissions counselor at NUWAY before rejoining The Retreat as women’s program coordinator at the beginning of 2022. She is an active Saint Paul Recovery community member and serves as the board chair of Women in Recovery. Eva brings a wealth of recovery experience to her work with the women’s center’s guests. A life-long learner, she is currently pursuing her master’s degree in public and nonprofit administration at her alma mater. Eva is an enthusiastic advocate, guide, and mentor who is passionate about helping women rebuild their lives in ways that are richer and more fulfilling in recovery.

She enjoys spending her free time with her husband, Tylor, and their daughters, Logan and Dylan.
