If there’s anything we, who are in recovery, understand – it’s introversion.
There’s a common thing that happens when many of us stop drinking or enter recovery, the process of finding out what our true interests are. It’s not unusual to realize maybe going out and socializing isn’t really for us, or it’s more difficult than we realized. Or, that we may prefer to read a book, meditate silently, or go to bed early.
Many of us find that we’ve been masking ourselves as extroverts when our true natures are introverts!
We know there are more than a few self-proclaimed introverts traveling to SHE RECOVERS in Miami in April. And we want you to know we have you in mind and we created this guide to help you navigate our Miami conference.
Meditation
As we know, meditation can have a profound effect on the brain and help us free our minds and regulate our emotions. It’s a recovery tool that heals, calms, and connects us. Luckily, we will have a SHE Meditates room in Miami! A quiet oasis away from the buzz and bustle of the conference. Any time you might be feeling overwhelmed or craving some alone time, head to the meditation room, grab a pillow, and connect with your breath.
Labyrinth
Another stress reliever provided in Miami will be a walking labyrinth. Perfect for introverts, a labyrinth encourages you to go within and reflect. The labyrinth will be available all weekend for you to set an intention for yourself, walk from the outside to the center, and back again. If you’re craving alone time or just a moment away from others, try out our labyrinth.
Breaks
The beauty of a SHE RECOVERS conference is that you can take as many breaks as you like. Please feel free to make the agenda your own, and choose which sessions you want to attend. Whenever you feel like breaking free from the group, you can visit our Marketplace and shop and browse our preferred vendors and resources. Additionally, make your way to the fresh air balcony to take in the beautiful outdoors and recharge with a cool drink. Introverts need breaks and we wanted to make our Miami space as break-friendly as possible.
Movement
Following our previous conferences in New York and Los Angeles, we asked the attendees what they wanted more of, and it was clear that movement was one of those things. This year in Miami, we’ll have more ways to have a truly somatic experience. Feel your recovery through movement with SHE RECOVERS Dance, a silent disco, SHE RECOVERS Trauma-Informed Yoga, Yoga of 12 Step Recovery with Nikki Myers, and even an organized run. Pick and choose which movement experiences feel the best for you. Movement is another individualized way to let your true introvert flourish. Connect with your soul and body, tuning out the outside world.
And of course, you can make your days as long, or as short as your heart’s desire! Retire back to your room at any time.
