SHE RECOVERS® is already a well-known and highly respected leader in the women’s recovery space, and it’s time to scale across Canada:

SHE RECOVERS® started in 2011 as a passion project initiated by a Dawn Nickel and Taryn Strong, a Canadian mother and daughter in long term recovery from substance use, trauma and mental health issues. The organization was granted legal charitable status in the U.S. in 2020 and in Canada in 2022.

The growth of SHE RECOVERS up until 2024 took place primarily across the United States and the broader global virtual space. Indeed, until now there has not been an opportunity to promote this Canadian grown movement in the country where it was born.

It’s now time for SHE RECOVERS to come home to Canada.

Under a Shared Services Agreement, the U.S. Foundation will continue to provide the incredibly rich mission programs and support to Canadian women as it has to date, but with Canada paying its fair portion of the costs and expenses. New programming and activities specifically created in Canada for the benefit of Canadian women will be the sole financial responsibility of SHE RECOVERS Foundation Canada.

Initial work in Canada will focus on:

Icon Illuminate

A focused outreach and education campaign to inform and educate Canadian women (and the professionals who support them) about the SHE RECOVERS® philosophy and recovery support programming available to Canadian Women.

Icon Connector

Pursuing meaningful engagement with Indigenous women’s organizations in Canada to discuss potential collaboration.

Icon guardian

Development of a directory of trusted women’s treatment and recovery resources in Canada, to be housed on the SHE RECOVERS website.

Icon founderscircle

Development and implementation of a suite of women’s mental wellness workshops to be offered in partnership with SHE RECOVERS Coaches and Professionals and offered in-person across Canada.

The mission of the SHE RECOVERS Foundation Canada is:

  • To promote health by providing individuals with substance use and other behavioural health disorders with access to related counselling, information, or group support programs.
  • To conduct activities that are incidental and ancillary to the attainment of the above charitable purposes, including conducting or sharing research and resources that benefit women in recovery for substance use and other behavioural health disorders.

SHE RECOVERS is a global grassroots movement serving women and non-binary individuals in or seeking recovery from life challenges including trauma, substance use, grief and loss, eating disorders, burnout and moral injury, love addiction and mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. We are all recovering from something—no one should have to recover alone. The organization connects women through its virtual offerings and in-person community networks, provides resources and support to help women develop their own holistic recovery patchworks, and empowers them to thrive, share their experience, and celebrate success. All efforts are designed to redefine recovery, end stigma and shame, and help more women heal.

SHE RECOVERS Foundation Canada respectfully recognizes and acknowledges the relationship that the First Nations, Inuit and Métis across Canada have with the land all Canadians live on and enjoy.

QuoteMarks White

“SHE RECOVERS means the world to me. It means community, unity, and women supporting women. It also means unconditional love. SHE RECOVERS has truly saved my life. When I was at my worst, needing to be held, seen, and heard, this community was here for me day in and day out.”
