Recognizing Meredith Remz as a SHE RECOVERS Gem

SHE RECOVERS® Foundation Volunteer Recognition

Meredith Remz as a SHE RECOVERS Gem

“Being a volunteer allows me to work with new people in recovery and that is critical to my healing. I love being able to welcome newcomers and help our environment thrive so that we can seamlessly help others.” — Meredith Remz, SHE RECOVERS Volunteer

Meredith Remz was one of our first SHE RECOVERS Together Online Gathering Guardians — a volunteer role that she still holds to this day, along with monitoring the gathering attendance verification system. She joined the SHE RECOVERS community in 2019, started attending gatherings in March of 2020, and stewards our spaces with her presence, advocacy, and volunteership. Meredith credits the SHE RECOVERS Podcast with getting her sober and the SHE RECOVERS community with providing her with one of her very best friends!

She has recently been recognized as a SHE RECOVERS Gem.

SHE RECOVERS Gems are volunteers who have been acknowledged by their peers for their profound and life-altering contributions and service to our community.

We had the honor of interviewing Meredith Remz about her role as a SHE RECOVERS volunteer.

What does being a SHE RECOVERS Foundation volunteer mean to you?

Being a volunteer allows me to work with new people in recovery and that is critical to my healing. I love being able to welcome newcomers and help our environment thrive so that we can seamlessly help others.

What three words would your friends and peers use to describe you?

Creative, positive, true.

What is something of which you are proud?

I am really proud of my college degree from Rutgers University.

What do you do outside of your SRF volunteer role for work and/or play?

I’ve been employed as an office manager for a busy architecture & engineering firm in Princeton, NJ since 2011. I am also a practicing artist and encourage others to investigate their creativity. I also act as guardian for SHE RECOVERS Coach Andrea Bernstein’s virtual Women’s Art Recovery Support Group Meetings, and I am the founder of the Recovering with Art and Recovering with Fur Facebook groups.

What does radical self-care look like for you?

Bubble baths, sleeping in, and snuggles with my chihuahua, Tony.

Tell us a little bit about your recovery journey. What are you recovering from?

I’m recovering from alcohol, drugs, depression, grief/sibling loss, and ADHD.

What or who is inspiring you right now?

I’m inspired while FUNdraising for SHE RECOVERS (a passion of mine).

What SHE RECOVERS Intention and Guiding Principle resonates with you the most?

#1. We are all recovering from something.

What is your favorite SHE RECOVERS resource?

The SHE RECOVERS Podcast got me sober. The online gatherings introduced me to my amazing recovery family!

What is one piece of advice you would give to another woman/non-binary individual who is seeking a community like SHE RECOVERS?

Keep coming! One of my best friends came into this group three years after me, and if I’d left, I never would’ve met them!
