“SHE RECOVERS put me on the road to recovery by introducing to me the most important part of recovery, connection!” – Sherri Beatty, SHE RECOVERS Volunteer

Recognizing Sherri Beatty as a SHE RECOVERS Gem

Sherri Beatty is a SHE RECOVERS volunteer co-host for our Gatherings and a volunteer Facebook admin for our SHE RECOVERS Together Facebook group. She has been a volunteer of the Foundation for two years and has been recently recognized as a SHE RECOVERS Gem.

SHE RECOVERS Gems are volunteers who have been acknowledged by their peers for their profound and life-altering contributions and service to our community.

We had the honor of interviewing Sherri about her role as a SHE RECOVERS Volunteer.

What does being a SHE RECOVERS Foundation Volunteer mean to you?

It means the world. SHE RECOVERS put me on the road to recovery by introducing to me the most important part of recovery, connection! The friends and coaches I’ve found in this group are instrumental in my life. I just had to show my appreciation by volunteering and monthly donations. I want other women who come to our community to have the same great experience that I have.

Why did you decide to become a SHE RECOVERS Foundation Volunteer?

I want to provide a safe, welcoming environment for all who come to this group and all who depend on the zoom gathering as I do, for connection.

What three words would your friends and fellow peers use to describe you?

Attentive, helpful, and knowledgeable.

How do these aspects of who you are show up in your everyday life?

I’m constantly checking the Facebook Group for new members and supporting those who post. I’m more sensitive and empathetic to those around me and I am a great listener.

What is something you are most proud of?

My sobriety and the fact that so many have shown me their appreciation and love for the way I help keep our sacred space secure.

What does radical self-care look like for you?

Boundaries! Knowing when to stop people pleasing and attending to my needs.

What or who is inspiring you right now?

The women who come to SHE RECOVERS, especially those in early recovery.

What SHE RECOVERS Intention & Guiding Principle resonates with you the most right now?

We do our individual work in order to create and hold healing spaces for everyone. All women deserve recovery.

What is your favorite SHE RECOVERS resource?

Daily Zoom Gatherings.

What is one piece of advice you would give to another woman/non-binary individual who is seeking a community like SHE RECOVERS?

I’d do everything I could to explain the benefits of our group.

What do you do outside of your volunteer role for work and/or play?

Cooking and visiting with friends and relatives. Taking care of my mom and providing her with comfort in her retirement.

Tell us a little bit about your recovery journey. What tools and resources do you weave into your patchwork of recovery?

I’m in recovery from alcohol, cocaine, nicotine, disordered eating, childhood abandonment and codependency, unhealthy attachment, anxiety, and depression. I take courses in small groups and am also a part of small group coaching, along with medication and self-care. Reading a lot of recovery books and podcasts too
