HELD: MAY 5 – 7th, 2017.
Harnessing the power and connectivity previously created primarily via its online community – SHE RECOVERS® in NYC brought the women-identifying cyber-recovery movement to real life in lower Manhattan in early May, 2017. The first in a series of innovative signature events designed to provide women in recovery the opportunity to connect, engage, share, and learn from one another, the first SHE RECOVERS® conference took place at the prestigious Conrad Hotel in lower Manhattan. Sold out more than three months in advance, the event brought together over 500 women from across North America (and beyond) to connect, engage, learn, and share about the things that they were recovering from (we are all recovering from something) and the multiple and varied pathways and patchworks that they were stitching together to aid them in their healing journeys.
We remain so grateful to our sponsors, exhibitors and supporters for helping us to create what has been described by so many as a truly “life-changing” event.
500 attended in person, with several hundred more participating online via livestream.
SHE RECOVERS® has been leading the charge to introduce women to the concept of modern recovery since 2011. To that end, it was really important that the first SHE RECOVERS® signature conference take place in a setting that screamed hip and chic. The Conrad New York is symbolic of modern recovery…a calm and inviting oasis where women could gather over three days for heart-felt connection and community. Located in the heart of lower Manhattan’s Battery Park City, the hotel provided magnificent views of the Hudson River and the nearby waterfront walkways, markets, restaurants and green spaces couldn’t be beat. The venue, location, services and amenities were nothing short of perfect.
Women in the SHE RECOVERS® movement define and shape their own recovery so they can heal themselves and in turn, help heal others. Speakers in the NYC included thought leaders and changemakers – women recovering in all areas of their lives including substance use disorders, eating disorders, anxiety, codependency and more. Workshops presented ideas and resources on the topics of spirituality and money, sex in recovery, writing our recovery, sugar addiction, and the benefits of recovery coaching. Add in SHE RECOVERS® Yoga with Taryn Strong, a run, a dance class and a team of the most renowned Sober Bloggers on the planet, and we basically had a remarkably kick-ass program.
