The Color of Crisis: Addressing the Critical Need for Culturally Responsive Care With Dr. Jordan-Alston

Summary

In this webinar, Dr. Masica Jordan-Alston of Jordan Peer Recovery will focus on cultural responsiveness and working with clients from different cultural groups. This webinar will pay tribute to the recent lives that were lost due to hate crimes across the US and ensure that there are culturally responsive services being offered around the globe.

Learning Objectives

  • Examine the effects of a racism pandemic, amidst the opioid epidemic and COVID-19 pandemic
  • Understand how the social determinants of health are connected to the 8 societal systems of influence
  • Learn the difference between cultural competency, cultural humility, and cultural responsiveness
  • Address person-centered language in diversity, equity, and inclusion solutions
  • Learn the ASK Model 6 key questions to address bias
  • Discuss next steps for bridging the cultural understanding gaps

A certificate of completion will be awarded for attending this event. CEUs for this event will be provided by NAADAC. Participants are responsible for verifying if this activity meets their continuing education board requirements in order to gain credit.

Speaker

 
Dr. Jordan-Alston holds an EdD in counseling psychology. She is a licensed clinical professional counselor and a certified peer recovery specialist. She is the founder of Jordan Peer Recovery, Peerfinity LLC, The Equal People Project, and Coach Larry Foundation. She is also a professor at the University of Maryland’s Bowie State University.
 
Dr. Jordan-Alston is a subject matter expert on cultural responsiveness. In addition to teaching multicultural counseling in collegiate settings, she has presented on international platforms and has been an advocate for cultural responsiveness training amongst behavioral health workforces.
 

In 2019, Dr. Jordan-Alston provided expert testimony to the U.S. Government Accountability Office on peer recovery. She has assisted over 50 agencies in developing Peer Support programs. She facilitates workshops, seminars, and trainings for numerous organizations around the world.
