Reconociendo Nuestro Poder / Recognizing Our Strengths as Latinas with Dr. Cynthia E. Guzmán| A #MentalHealthMonday Recovery Education Session

In this #MentalHealthMonday Recovery Education Series session, we will explore the recovery experience of the Latina community. Join licensed psychologist, past president of the National Latinx Psychological Association, and SHE RECOVERS board member-at-large, Dr. Cynthia E. Guzmán, as she discusses the shared experiences and unique challenges faced by Latinas and how using a culturally relevant, strengths-based approach to recovery can foster holistic healing. In this presentation, we will delve into traditional Latina gender roles and how they commonly present in contemporary society and examine how cultural expectations and broader behavioral health stigma have created barriers to wellness for Latinas in recovery. After learning about the complexities faced by recovering Latinas, we will shift focus to the inherent strength and resilience of the Latin culture, and how these attributes can be drawn upon for support and empowerment in recovery.

During this offering, Cynthia will:

  • Identify common, traditional Latina gender roles and how they present in society
  • Describe the stigma related to Latinas seeking professional help
  • Discuss how recognizing the intrinsic Latina strengths can aid in recovery.

Join us LIVE for a Q & A session following the presentation.
