Trauma Informed Yoga with Taryn

The body has its own story to tell, and its own healing to experience.

When the body holds onto stuck energy and trauma, illness, chronic fatigue, dis-ease, and/or other health conditions may manifest.

Through a trauma-informed approach, yoga can serve as a pathway to holistic healing that supports your body, mind, heart, and spirit. Its practice can amplify the release of what is no longer serving you, and can help you to recover from past stressors enabling you to live more fully in the present.

“Taryn’s yoga classes are like no other. Her holistic approach to her teaching always leaves me feeling that my mind, body and spirit have been nurtured and strengthened.”

Why Yoga for Recovery?

Yoga is important because – as we state in one of our SHE RECOVERS Intentions & Guiding Principles – “Recovery is a journey to wholeness – we take care of our mind, body, emotions, and spirit.”

In many parts of the world we have become good at including opportunities for healing the mind and spirit when on a path of recovery (talk therapy, support groups, 12 step programs, etc.), and while these are essential for many, they exclude the healing of our bodies.

When it comes to trauma especially, unless we process and release the experience from the body, illness, chronic fatigue, dis-ease, and other health conditions may manifest.  Our bodies also deserve to heal from the chronic stress we may have put it through prior to embarking on a journey of recovery.

Trauma informed yoga can complement your patchwork of recovery and serve as a pathway to holistic healing. Join Taryn as she takes you on a gentle, trauma-informed journey of exploration that will help heal your body, mind, and spirit.

“Taryn possesses such an amazing energy that is warm, welcoming and inclusive to all. She has THE BEST voice! Since moving away from Victoria I’ve never found a yogi who measures up to her – SO EXCITED FOR HER VIDEOS! I can’t wait to bring her into my living room!”

What’s in store?

Balance the energy around your heart to help heal from codependency, isolation, depression, or fear of intimacy.

Issues in Your Tissues

Nikki Myers, from Y12SR, teaches us that everything that happens to us in our lives, we store in our bodies.

Resilience is like a muscle – the more life throws at us, the more opportunities we have to strengthen our resilience and thrive.

Feel It To Heal It

We have learned that feelings won’t kill us – but running from them might.

Grounding Practice

Are you often anxious? Overwhelmed? Unsettled? Use this practice to find your center and get grounded.

Crimes Against Wisdom

If you have been hearing yourself saying, “I know I shouldn’t, but I am going to do it anyway” – this class is for you.

“SHE RECOVERS Trauma Informed Yoga is IT. This is the missing piece of my recovery. I feel held, seen, supported and connected to myself and my body in a way I have never experienced before. Sometimes I laugh and cry in the same session. It is amazing how much can move through and out of my nervous system in such a short time, and I love that I get to choose a theme and duration that feels right for me. THANK YOU Taryn & SHE RECOVERS!”

“I had such an awful experience the first time I tried Yoga. The Instructor stated that my chest MUST touch my knees. As a woman living in a plus-size body I felt so ashamed that I couldn’t make this happen. I knew Yoga could help me heal, but I didn’t try it again for years because of the shame I experienced in that class. I finally tried SHE RECOVERS Trauma Informed Yoga with Taryn Strong and I immediately felt at home. The invitational guidance and empowering cues helped me fall in love with the practice and with my own body. It is a cornerstone of my recovery patchwork.”

Hi! I’m Taryn.

I am a founder of the SHE RECOVERS® Foundation (with my mama, Dawn Nickel). I am also in recovery from substance use disorder, trauma, disordered eating, self-injurious behavior, codependency, and all of the things that manifested as those things; shame, low self-worth, low self-esteem, and being afraid of using my voice.

Today, I know, for a fact, that everything I have been through – every heartbreak, addiction, trauma, insecurity – has taught me to lead with my heart and affirmed to me that we must be supported to find and follow individualized pathways and patchworks of recovery. Yoga is my recovery pathway.

Since I began teaching yoga in 2007, I have led over 50 yoga for recovery retreats (including a retreat at Kripalu), presented at several Yoga conferences, and have co-taught alongside Elena Brower. I am also the creator of the SHE RECOVERS Trauma Informed Yoga philosophy, program, and teacher training.

I am also a recovery coach, aromatherapist, and herbalist. Aand, I am so honored to weave my personal and professional experience within the realm of recovery with my love for yoga and holistic healing modalities into the SHE RECOVERS Trauma Informed Yoga philosophy, program, and teacher training.

I am a firm believer in anti-oppressive practices and strive to bring an empathic and invitational approach to healing that can empower women to find and follow individualized pathways and patchworks of recovery. I am passionate about recovering out-loud, leading with courageous vulnerability, smashing the stigma often associated with mental health issues, trauma and substance use, and serving as a dDirector on the SHE RECOVERS Foundation Board.

I live, create, work and play with my beloved partner, infant son, and two dogs within the ancestral and unceded traditional territory of the Hul’qumi’num and SENĆOŦEN speaking Peoples (Saltspring Island).

I hope you will join me on this journey of recovering through the body. You are worthy of the time spent on your healing and deserve to practice yoga in a way that soothes your heart and soul.

Xo Taryn

P.S.
