Recognizing Janine Lalonde as a SHE RECOVERS Gem

SHE RECOVERS® Foundation Volunteer Recognition

SHE RECOVERS Gem Janine Lalonde

“When I applied to volunteer with the SHE RECOVERS Foundation, it was because I wanted to give back to the Foundation and the SR sisters who inspired me to recover from the myriad of things I tried to numb. Before joining SHE RECOVERS, I never really fully embraced the power of connection in the healing process.” — Janine Lalonde, SHE RECOVERS Together Online Zoom Gathering Guardian

Janine Lalonde (she/her) has been a volunteer SHE RECOVERS Together Online Guardian since 2023.

She has recently been recognized as a SHE RECOVERS Gem.

SHE RECOVERS Gems are volunteers who have been acknowledged by their peers for their profound and life-altering contributions and service to our community.

We had the honor of interviewing Janine about her role as a SHE RECOVERS volunteer.

What does being a SHE RECOVERS Foundation volunteer mean to you?

When I applied to volunteer with the SHE RECOVERS Foundation, it was because I wanted to give back to the Foundation and the SR sisters who inspired me to recover from the myriad of things I tried to numb. Before joining SHE RECOVERS, I never really fully embraced the power of connection in the healing process. It was a game-changer for me.

What three words would your friends and peers use to describe you?

Kind, empathic, loyal.

How do these aspects of who you are show up in your everyday life?

I am committed to my family and friends. I lean into trusting myself and living my values.

What is something of which you are proud?

Who I am as a human being.

What do you do outside of your SRF Volunteer role for work and/or play?

Spend time with friends who bring me true joy. I love the pops symphony and theatre.

What does radical self-care look like for you?

Learning and practicing things that are important to me: taking care of body, soul, and mind.

Tell us a little bit about your recovery journey. What are you recovering from? What tools and resources do you weave into your patchwork of recovery?

My ongoing recovery journey is not linear and has lots of potholes and detours. The most important thing for me to remember is to give myself grace and to count my blessings every day. The meetings, certain podcasts, meditation, and affirmations help me get back to my core.

What or who is inspiring you right now?

The new young members in the meetings are truly inspiring, as well as the friends I have made through this group. The facilitators and all the volunteers are gems! Right now, my biggest inspiration is my pastor, a woman.

What SHE RECOVERS Intention and Guiding Principle resonates with you the most?

Recovery is a journey to wholeness. We learn to take care of our body, mind, emotions & spirit.

What is your favorite SHE RECOVERS resource?

The meetings are #1 for sure, followed by the Facebook page/group.

What is one piece of advice you would give to another woman/non-binary individual who is seeking a community like SHE RECOVERS?

One breath, one step, one heartbeat at a time. Remember, you are not alone.
