Understanding exactly what a Recovery Coach does is integral to understanding their place at the table within a Recovery Oriented System of Care (ROSC). Coaching that is integrated into primary care can limit the number of hospital days and visits for patients with a substance use disorder. This is beneficial not only to the individual and the community but to the overall healthcare system.

Very early in my recovery I came to understand and accept that my life had become completely unmanageable and it was falling apart because of my addictions. I saw – finally and clearly – that regardless of all the reasons or excuses for why I had ended up in that exact place, ultimately it was going to be up to me to take responsibility for myself if I wanted out of the pain.
